CPCB in consultation for EPR Electronic Trading Platform for Plastic Packaging

New Delhi, India – Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) is currently developing a new platform to streamline the management of plastic packaging waste. This platform, known as the EPR Electronic Trading Platform for Plastic Packaging (EPRETPP), is designed to enhance transparency and efficiency in the industry.

The draft guidelines for the EPRETPP have been shared with key industry players for feedback. These guidelines outline the platform’s operational framework, including credit trading mechanisms, financial safeguards, and market regulation.

The platform will employ financial safeguards, including escrow accounts and buyer balance requirements, to ensure smooth transactions. A live pricing mechanism will determine credit values, while the CPCB will regulate prices through floor and ceiling limits. To maintain fairness, trades will only be executed within a specific price range. However, crucial details such as settlement timelines are still under discussion. The CPCB is expected to release the final guidelines in due course, providing greater clarity on the EPRETPP’s functionalities and implications for the industry.

While there is support for the platform’s objectives, concerns have been raised about specific provisions.
